What are the types of money out there?

Grant

A grant is a type of gift aid, money that does not need to be repaid. Grants are usually awarded based on demonstrated financial need..

Merit-Based Aid

Merit-based aid is financial aid awarded to students based on their personal achievements. Most scholarships are considered merit aid, as they are generally awarded for success in school, the arts, athletics or another area.

Need-Based Aid

Selection Criteria

• Be a 2024 graduate with at least one varsity letter. If you are a Running Start student, at least 50% of your senior-year courses must be at West Seattle High School

Steps to Apply for the Seattle Promise Scholarship

To receive the Seattle Promise Scholarship, students must complete each of the following requirements by their respective deadlines:

1. Apply for admission to South Seattle College
2. Apply for the Seattle Promise Scholarship
3. Apply for a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID
4. Submit your  Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or WASFA
5. Participate in the Readiness Academy; specialized workshops to learn how to complete enrollment processes such as: the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), SSC financial aid file completion, and preparation for placement.
6. Complete your SSC financial aid file
7. Attend START New Student Orientation and register for fall quarter classes
8. Graduate from Chief Sealth, Cleveland, Rainier Beach, or West Seattle High School in June of your senior year.
9. Attend the 13th Year Bridge Program in September. During the Bridge Program, students are acclimated to the college campus, learn about student success strategies and campus resources, as well as meet instructors, staff, and peers.

• Student View & Washington Senior Scholarship Program– Offering over $14,000 worth of scholarships to high school seniors. No minimum SAT/ACT score or GPA, no essay, no application fees. The scholarship deadline is April 23, 2024.
